Tree-ting our Feet to the new Allbirds Tree Glider

Not every shoe we own has to be a hardcore running shoe. Sure, we spend a lot of time discussing footwear that can help us cross the finish line faster or log more miles, but let’s face it—most of us can only run for so many hours in a day or week. The rest of our time is spent in more relaxed settings.

Whether it’s hanging out at a local lunch spot or brewery, taking a slow stroll with your kids or parents along the Waterfront or downtown, or playing a casual game of pickleball or cornhole at a family gathering, there are probably more hours dedicated to these activities than to running. That’s why the newly released Allbirds Tree Glider is such a great option to have.

The Tree Glider fits perfectly into that middle ground—an active shoe that offers comfort and can keep up with an active lifestyle while also not looking like a traditional running shoe. It combines the best elements of running shoes into a more casual package that’s ready for anything.

Construction:

Like all Allbirds shoes, the Tree Glider is environmentally friendly and sustainable. The upper is made from their signature material derived from trees, blending recycled polyester with TENCEL Lyocell fibers. It’s breathable and, with its one-piece knit design, it holds the foot securely decently well while allowing flexibility.

The midsole, known as SuperLight, is a carbon foam that’s Allbirds’ lightest yet—70% bio-based compared to many shoes that use mostly, or only, petroleum-based plastics. It’s definitely comfortable—maybe not half-marathon comfortable—but perfect for walking or light, low-mileage runs.

The outsole is crafted from natural rubber, providing excellent grip. While you might not need a super technical grip in a shoe like this, it’s more than capable of handling most activities you throw at it.

Looks:

And then there’s the look—like most Allbirds shoes, the Tree Glider provides a classic visualization. Both the men’s and women’s versions come in muted colorways—grays, beiges, blacks, and whites. The Natural White/Beige (pictured) is as fancy as it gets.

This understated design makes it easy to wear as an everyday or casual shoe, seamlessly fitting into your wardrobe in ways neon yellows or reds simply can’t. We really love the subtle, classy aesthetic.

Conclusion:

Overall, the Tree Gliders aren’t going to replace your running shoes, but good luck finding a better-looking, classic shoe that you can wear in almost any situation—and still be ready to comfortably tackle an impromptu 5k if the opportunity arises.
