Pearl iZUMi Men’s Expedition Short Sleeve Jersey
- Color: Black
- Main Design Features: Stretch woven fabric, 3 rear and 2 side zippered pockets, silicon grippers on sleeves, reflective elements, UPF25
This is a gravel jersey, perfect for just about any Spring to early Fall ride on gravel, road, or anything in between. I’ve been wearing it on hot days and long excursions – the kind of days when you and your bike both need a good wash afterward.
I’m always impressed with its ability to keep me warm in the early morning meet ups, and cool when the temperatures start soaring. I typically gravitate toward tight form fitting cycling jerseys, which this technically is, but there is just enough wiggle room that there is plenty of ventilation when you need it on those unrelenting climbs or long exposed segments. I also really like that the sleeves go down to just above the elbow, saving a bit more surface area from needing sunscreen.
The material is nothing that I’ve felt before with a jersey. It’s incredibly stretchy, smooth, lightweight, and very inviting. With plenty of pockets and storage you can do without a saddle bag, and the 2 zippered pockets are great for a cash stash or credit cards for those middle-of-no-where mini mart stops. I have found myself choosing this jersey a lot this Summer when it’s time to log some hard miles. The comfort, sun blocking, and cooling features keep me coming back for more.
Pearl iZUMi Men’s PRO Mesh Jersey
- Color: Black
- Main Design Features: Quick drying fabric, low rise neck opening, reflective elements, thermal regulating capabilities
This is the most breathable, sweat wicking, lightweight jersey I’ve ever worn – perfect for a mid-Summer evening crit or short road race. It is my go-to for events that I want to stay cool and dry after hard efforts.
It’s a tight aero fit, with minimal seams or extra material to get in the way. And because of the mesh construction you really kind of forget you are wearing anything at all. I would take it out on much longer days, but with low sun protection and the sheerness of it, there are better options for those adventure rides. I like keeping this one as a secret weapon when high temps are working against the group on the course.
I will say, however, that I’ve also chosen this on numerous Summer morning commutes. It’s so good at managing heat that I can rip a bit hard on the way in without showing up a complete sweaty mess. While it’s not my go-to choice for everything, this jersey has definitely found a purpose and sweet spot when staying cool and going fast is the priority.
