Starlight Run

Running with a Cheering Audience: 2024 Starlight Run (Portland, OR)

Starlight Run is my absolute favorite 5K race of all time. It was my first 5K as a runner and the one that I always recommend for new runners. Running along the streets of downtown Portland before a parade means thousands of cheering fans. And it’s an evening run so no before-dawn alarm clock to worry about.

In 2024, the race has been taken over by Run with Paula, so we can trust that the legacy of this Rose Festival icon is in good hands.

The 5K route is an out-and-back from Waterfront Park. The start/finish line is right by Portland Rose Festival CityFair (which participants get free entry to with their race bib). Participants are encouraged to dress up; there is even a costume contest before the race starts. And after the race, stick around for the Starlight Parade.
