Tracksmith is synonymous with classy modern takes on historical running themes – and the first product they launched was a Van Cortlandt singlet that came complete with a diagonal sash and had deep meaning outside of looks alone.
The Tracksmith sash is inspired by the Cornell Track and Field teams of the late 1800s. Athletes who scored points at the league championships earned a satin sash, sewn over the “C” on their singlet. It’s a symbol of excellence that we hope will inspire runners to perform at a level worthy of all those who’ve worn it before.
Here we are now – a decade later and the Van Cortlandt line is being updated with new colors and items that continue to make a statement.

The latest colorways unveiled in this year’s Van Cortlandt launch are truly captivating. While we certainly appreciate vibrant hues on occasion, there’s an undeniable elegance to the muted tones showcased this year. In 2024, Tracksmith presents a palette featuring creams, golds, navy, and forest green options, exuding sophistication and timeless appeal.
The Van Cortlandt Long Sleeve is a straight forward open-weave mesh material (their famed 2:09 Mesh). It is very breathable and extremely light – especially for a long sleeve top. On a few warmer spring jaunts, this have been great without overheating, and provides enough warmth and coverage during those chillier runs as well.
Oregon weather gonna do Oregon things – and this top is up for it.
While new technology and designs are always being introduced into the marketplace, it isn’t often that a running shirt does something legitimately different.
The Van Cortlandt Polo looks about as far away from your brain’s mental image of a running shirt, yet has all the functionality to go along with the style.
On the surface, it’s a collared-shirt version of a running top (say what?), complete with buttons. To be fair, while this style isn’t generally seen on your local trails, it pays homage to the historical running style from about a century ago – with updated specs to be sure.
It is made from their 2:09 Mesh – a polyester / spandex mesh blend to keep it super lightweight and stylish. It’s beautiful to look at (and I have worn it in non-running settings more than once without anyone batting an eye), but really excels in its breathability and lightweight construction when working out.
The collar does take a little getting used to, as will likely the number of people asking “what is that awesome shirt you are wearing!?“. As with all Tracksmith gear, we recommend considering sizing up.
Highly Recommended!
