Conquering the Wilderness: Inside the 2024 McDonald Forest 50k Trail Run Adventure

“The Mac” is back! The 2024 McDonald Forest 50k Trail Run is back for its 28th year on May 4th, 2024 and it remains one of the oldest ultrarunning races in Oregon. This race is part of the new Corvallis Trail Series which includes the McDonald Forest 15k, the Alsea Falls Spring Fling, Mary’s Peak Trail Run, Run for The Hills, and The Condor.

The race takes place in Oregon State University’s McDonald Forest. The terrain for this race is a well-maintained single-track course with a pine needle cushioned downhill finish that’s a favorite for many. This year the race will return to McCulloch Peak, which is the highest point in McDonald Forest.

May is a beautiful time of year for trail running through Corvallis, with dogwoods and calypso orchids providing the backdrop. You’ll also be distracted by scenic views of the Cascades, the Coast Range, and Soap Creek Valley.

The race will start at 8:00AM in Corvallis.  There is an early start option of 7:00AM with a minimum timeframe for completing the race in 7 hours and 30 minutes.

All participants must carry a water bottle for this race, and the race will be cupless. There will be 4 well stocked aid stations as well as a post-race meal of soup, bread, fruit, cookies, and drinks. All participants will also receive a pair of Injinji socks and a Territory Run race shirt. There will be at least $400 in prize money up for grabs.

The cost of this event is $100 ($75 for students or veterans) and the Corvallis Area Trailrunners will receive some of the proceeds to help out the local middle and high school cross-country teams, the Corvallis Mountain Rescue Unit, and the OSU Research Forest.

The McDonald Forest 50k is limited to 300 entrants and you must be 18 years old or older on race day to enter. Get yourself registered ASAP!
