Grrrrr’s and Brrrrrr’s: A Run Oregon preview of the Polar Bear 5k and 10k in Redmond

According to scientists at Polar Bears International, polar bears are natural sprinters but only the little ones can run far distances before they overheat. Polar bear youth can run up to a mile and a half. That means, if you sign up for the Polar Bear Run in Redmond this January, know that along with all of those folks sleeping in, you are also running farther than any polar bear.

If you live in Central Oregon, or are heading there to take in some skiing and snowing following the new year, consider taking in a race as well. The Polar Bear Fun Run 10k and 5k, taking place on Saturday, January 10 in Redmond is sure to provide a unique running experience.

The 10k and 5k event will take place within the Dry Canyon on the well-maintained trails that traverses the city. The course figures to be an out and back design throughout what can often be a frozen landscape. All ages, and levels are welcome and encouraged and even strollers are welcome on course. The race will be professionally timed – and if you can PR in the Central Oregon cold, you are King in my book!

After the run, participants will be able to thaw inside with complimentary hot chocolate and coffee at their on-site Wellness Expo. Awards will be given to the overall top three winners and top three finishers per age group.
