Held in Hillsboro at Liberty High School, with a course that explores the rural areas to the north, the Heartbreaker races are scheduled to occur on Sunday, February 16th this year. I have attended this event several times over the years and find it to be very well run. The kicker is, the courses are not flat, with rolling hills on all of them. The finish on the track almost makes up for it, but the amazing views come with a price. Regardless, the half is my favorite course at this event, with some spectacular views and running under a breathtaking train trestle.
Registration is currently online through Ram Races. Prices are currently listed as follows:
- Half marathon $79
- 10K $59
- 5K $44
- Kids dash for ages 2-10 $15 (400m for ages 2-6, 1 mile for those 7-10)
The next price increase is on the 2nd, with the half going up by ten dollars and the other two by $5. Registration includes a finishers medal for all participants, goodie bag, and a long sleeve tech shirt (kids race as well). The event is chip timed with live streamed results for instant access.
All races start and end at Liberty High School in Hillsboro. The courses head north into the industrial and then rural areas. The half starts first at 8 am, with the 10K and 5K following at 8:30. Car pooling is recommended, there is a good sized parking lot at the school, but I have seen it overflow and cars parked on the streets a fair distance away.
As an individual who attends 25 or more races a year when healthy, this event is definitely on my schedule when I am open. It checks all the boxes for race essentials, with an accurate and safe course and chip timing with a great location. If you have not attended yet, I recommend signing up for one of the Heartbreaker races in 2020.
