Several weeks ago I noticed that a recently renovated area of McMinnville would make for a great race venue and picturesque finish. After checking the course map for the untimed Go Granary run on June 2nd, I discovered it uses that very same street. Set up as a benefit for the Sheridan Japanese school, a public charter school, this low key run utilizes low traffic residential streets as well as a large park. All pavement, with very little elevation change, the course is great for beginners.
Early registration ends May 23rd, and is $10 for those who don’t want a shirt. Adding a shirt increases the fee to $25, but there is a $5 discount for participants under 18. The event is open to runners and walkers, as well as strollers and leashed pets. Day of event registration opens at 8:15 with the race starting at 9. DOE registration is $15, with shirts being an additional $15.
If you are looking for a small town run that benefits a great cause, the Go Granary 5K would be a great early summer tune up. With no professional timing on hand, personal results are as easy as using a tracking app or simple digital watch. The flat course will be low key and there are multiple food and drink options nearby for post race nutrition.
