Based in Portland, Oregon, the Sherie Hildreth Ovarian Cancer (SHOC) Foundation is a fund-raising organization founded in honor of a beloved local teacher who passed away from the disease in 2009. The foundation strives to spread awareness about ovarian cancer in addition to raising money for ovarian cancer research at OHSU. SHOC also works with ovarian cancer survivors, helping to keep them connected with one another as well as optimize their post-treatment health. Resources can be found on the SHOC website. Each year, the SHOC Foundation puts on the SHOC Walk/Run, hosted by Team Latus Motors Harley-Davidson, to help raise money and bring ovarian cancer awareness to the community. It’s a family friendly event – dogs and strollers (or dogs in strollers, if you like!) are welcome. With different options of course lengths to choose from (un-timed 1 mile, timed 5K and 10K), the courses take participants on a lovely, scenic tour of the town of Gladstone as well as affording views of the Clackamas River. Racers will enjoy music, vendors, face-painting, a pancake breakfast and other festivities.
