This isn’t a race and it’s not really a group run, either. It’s something totally unique and it makes me want to trek down to Eugene to participate!
On the 1st Saturday of the month (next one is Aug 5th), the University of Oregon will host a ‘Run with a Researcher’ run & walk. There is no fee and no sign-up required – just show up in some workout clothes and good shoes and enjoy a tour of the campus, Pre’s Trail, and other beautiful Eugene areas while chatting with a researcher!
When I’m running with my husband, we generally talk about our jobs, our life plans, family, and next adventures. When I run with my friends we generally groan about the weather, vent about life’s frustrations (mainly politics), and exchange book recommendations, among other things (if it’s a particularly long run, we eventually get to TMI topics like blood blisters or chafing). So to enjoy thinking outside the box and learning something new while doing something I love? It sounds like an incredible opportunity.
The researcher’s specialties range from journalism to ecology to biochemistry to mathematics and psychology. All levels of running are encouraged to attend and can choose from a 5K or 4.5 miler, both of which are flat. A course map, as well as researcher bios, are available on their website.
