Race Preview: Go Forth on the Fourth and Run Four-times in the Firecracker Quadzilla & Quadzuki!

Every time that the Fourth of July holiday falls on a Thursday or Tuesday, runners in Oregon get the chance to run four marathon or half marathons four days in a row. Local runner and self-described “Marathon Freak” Steve Walters along with his friends in the  local Marathon Maniac community host four fun-filled and challenging days of marathon and half-marathon races known as a “quadzilla” (four marathons run consecutively in four days) or a “quadzuki” (four half-marathons run consecutively in four days). Test your mettle and sign up to run all or one, two, or three of the races below and make it Fourth of July to remember with the Fire Cracker Quadzilla & Quadzuki.

Day One: Summer Lake Loopy Marathon and Half (July 1)

This marathon and half is on a paved a course around Summerlake Park. The course will be a 0.9375 mile loop around the park. Each loop will start and stop at the covered area. A half marathon can be run by completing 14 laps. A marathon can be run by completing 28 laps. Course map: https://www.strava.com/routes/7581539. Race start is at 7:00 am and there will be an aid station with water, gummi bears, pretzels and electrolyte replacement drink. This is a beautiful park with a lot of parking in the nearby neighborhoods.Each runner will receive a finisher’s medal. The race will be capped at 100 runners. At least 25 spots are reserved for the marathon, at least 25 spots are reserved for the half marathon. Tech shirts are available for purchase for $15 until June 12th. There are bathrooms, basketball courts and picnic shelters-be sure to bring a picnic for a post-race lunch to share with family and friends. The cost for this race is $50 for half-marathoners and $55 for the full marathon. Day of registration is available.

Day Two: Stars and Stripes Marathon and Half (July 2) 

The second race in the series will be held at Greenway Park, just a short drive from Summerlake Park at Fanno Farmhouse, 8405 SW Creekside Place, Beaverton, Oregon. The start/finish line will be located next to the Fanno Farmhouse on Creekside Place. Both the marathon and the half marathon runners will run a 3.28 mile loop repeatedly.

Marathoners will run the loop 8 times for the half marathon runners will run the loop 4 times. The loop will be well marked, but runners should be aware of the course. There will also be additional awards to the top male and female finishers in the marathon and half marathon. Parking is available next to the Fanno Farmhouse. Please note that this is NOT a closed course so be mindful of other’s using the park.

Cost for the marathon is $55 and $50 for the half. Please note there will be an aid station on course with water, Gatorade, sweet and salty snacks.
