Race Preview: 2017 Tour des Chutes – 5k run/walk (Bend)

Now in its 13th year, the Tour des Chutes is primarily a multi-distance cycling event (7, 25, 50, 75 and 100 miles) but if you are of the non-cycling type of athletic like me (I have no balance on bikes at all!), then you can still participate in this event by doing the non-competitive 5k run/walk being offered.

All of the event proceeds go towards helping Central Oregon children and adults with cancer, but the 5k run/walk funds specifically go towards the Pediatric Foundation,  a Central Oregon non-profit that provides financial support to families who have a child with cancer and must travel out of the area to receive life saving treatments. In its previous 12 events, Tour des Chutes has donated more than $900,000 to programs that support cancer survivors.

The 5k route goes through the beautiful neighborhood of Northwest Crossing on the west side of Bend on a nice and easy loop. This is totally family friendly running fun for a great cause!!

One thing that is included in every registration is the parties:

*Worthy No Quit Wit Party: July 7th, 6-8:00 PM Pick up your race packet on July 7th (packet pickup closes at 7pm on Friday) and enjoy a complimentary pint of a limited release beer brewed especially to honor Gary Bonacker, founder of Tour des Chutes. Also enjoy snacks, bid on fantastic silent auction items and relax to tunes.

*Pancake Party for 5K participants: July 8th, 8:30-10:30 AM. Participants will return to the start venue for fresh pancakes and cold chocolate milk from a local dairy. Stick around for live music!
