Sometimes running is all about the location. The tried and true routes can get stale and it is fun to run in a new area. I’m sure not many could say they have run some miles through a tulip farm, and the Tulip Trail Run on March 25th could be a unique chance. Located at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, this race is a fundraiser for the Oregon City High School Track and Field Team and offers both a 5K and 10K.
Both distances start at 8:30 am at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm ( 33814 S. Meridian Road, Woodburn, OR 97071). Packet pick up opens at 7 am, so there is plenty of time to get the pre race preparations. Be aware, the site is very explicit about warnings to stay on the trail, so definitely take care to avoid flattening any flowers. If you manage to avoid trampling the blooms, they do offer finishers medals for all and prizes for the top 3 in each gender. Overall male and female winners will also earn a free entry for the next years event, which I believe is a unique and great idea.
Registration is $35 for either distance and includes a shirt if you sign up before event day. Shirts can be purchased on the day of for $15 while they are available. Headphones and pets are allowed at this race, but they ask you to be aware of your surroundings. Entry also includes fun at the farm, which offers activities for kids and adults. They have beer and wine tasting, food, local craft vendors, steam tractors and more.
This look like the perfect race if you are looking for a low key soft surface event, followed by a relaxing day doing something unique. March 25th is a date where the weather can be a toss up, so definitely be prepared for anything. It’s good to have a chance to benefit a local group of young runners, some of them are likely to be the post high school runner of years to come.
