Strava Segment of the Week: Terwilliger (turnaround to Campus Drive)

Sorry for the delay in posting this week’s segment! I blame it on fellow Run Oregon admin Matt, but don’t hold a grudge against him, he’s a pretty cool dude.

Because the Shamrock Run is a week from Sunday, I thought, “why not make this week’s segment part of the course?” So here you have it. This is a 1.2-mile downhill segment that drops 146 feet.

It’s been attempted on Strava 3,648 times by a total of 809 people – I’d expect both those numbers to go up over the next two weeks. This segment is part of the half marathon and 15k courses. Next week’s segment will be part of the course for the 8k and 5k.

As of March 9, 2017, the course records for the segment “Terwilliger (turnaround to Campus Drive)” are:

Women’s: Alice Nielsen from April 2015, 7:55

Men’s:  Chris Hardesty from February 2017, 6:14

So, can you beat their times and become the leader of this segment? You have until Friday, March 24 at noon to try and break the record and see your name in “lights” on Run Oregon! We’ll post a new Segment next Friday at 12.

Strava is an online training and racing log for runners and cyclists. The basic account is free and requires you to create a login. There is also a premium version, but in order to run and record routes as described in this post, you do not need to subscribe to their premium service. Note that this is not sponsored by Strava, nor endorsed or supported in any way by Strava. It’s just a fun thing we’re going to do to give some speedy shout-outs to area runners and pose a challenge to those of you willing to take on their segment.
