Pantsuit Pursuit 5k in Eugene on January 21st: Running Together for Each Other

If you’re disappointed after the election and love to run, check out the Pantsuit Pursuit 5K. This event is a way to show solidarity through running in Eugene on Saturday, January 21st at the University of Oregon. Running the day after the inauguration, this run invites the community to come out and raise money for women, ladies of color, immigrants and the environment. All of the proceeds go directly to causes approved by race organizers and participants get to choose which organization they want to sponsor.

Options include various women’s organizations, refugee groups and environmental organizations. Plus, all of the choices are located in Oregon so it’s truly aiming for a local impact. Started by a third-year student at the University of Oregon, Sophia DeLoretto-Chudy, wanted to expand her reach with more than just a check to a cause.  She’s volunteered with the Democratic Party of Lane County, but was looking to do more. DeLoretto-Chudy admired Hilary Clinton well before she ran for office and was disappointed on November 8th, to say the least. Instead of allowing the election to keep her down, she decided to organize a run and the Pantsuit Pursuit 5K was born.

The course is still being finalized and participants are encouraged to wear their most comfortable pantsuit. It starts at the EMU (Erb Memorial Union) at 1585 E. 13th Street in Eugene. The run costs $25 for adults and $20 for students and all costs go directly to the cause of your choice. Race organizers are still looking for volunteers and donors. For anyone interested in helping out or donating instead of lacing up, email soph.delorett@gmail.com or check out the Pantsuit Pursuit Go Fund Me page.

A chance to expand your reach and help improve groups that will likely be impacted with the coming changes, the Pantsuit Pursuit 5K is more than just another run. It’s an opportunity to unite and show solidarity and help others in the process. The running part is just an added bonus, even better that pantsuits are encouraged. The University of Oregon is the place to be the day after the inauguration and if you want to make a day of it, plan to follow DeLoretto- Chudy to the Women’s March in Eugene directly from the race.
