Firefighters from around the U.S. and from other nations will converge on the stairwells of the U.S. Bancorp Tower in downtown Portland at the end of the month for The Portland Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge, a chance to earn bragging rights for their departments and raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CF).
Competitors will race up 40 floors, covering 800 steps while sporting over 70 pounds of gear, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Having run a similar event in the same building in light running clothes, I can imagine the effort it would take in full firefighting gear!

In addition to vying for individual male and female honors, agencies and individual participants will also be competing to see who can raise the most donations for CF research and treatment. In addition to the entry fee a minimum of $100 in donations is required from each entrant.
