The Huckleberry Half Marathon, 10K/5K Run or Walk on August 6th in Welches offers an opportunity to spot Bigfoot, experience the natural beauty of the area surrounding Mt. Hood and support the Mount Hood Kiwanis Camp all at the same time. Even if you don’t see a Sasquatch along the way, you’ll get a photo opportunity with Bigfoot at the finish line and a custom Lil’ Bigfoot finisher’s medal from reclaimed redwood all the way from California.
The course is all paved and strollers are invited to join in the fun. The Half Marathon is a loop that travels to the border of National Forest Road and turns around at the Green Canyon Trailhead. The course is semi-closed and will take in sights of the majestic Cascade Range, including moss filled trees, rustic homes, the golf course and the Salmon River Bridge along the way. With or without Bigfoot, there will be plenty to look at along the course.
The run starts at Welches Middle School (24903 E. Salmon River Road) and participants are encouraged to carpool. It’s better for the environment and helps with congestion. Look for parking signs along Woodsey Way and Salmon River Road as you approach the school. Packet pickup is at Foot Traffic (7718 SE 13th Ave.) on Friday, August 5th from 2pm-7pm. Registration will be available at packet pickup, but shirts are only guaranteed through July 31st. Cash prizes will be awarded for the first and second place finishers in the Half Marathon and ribbons will go to the top three in each age division for all distances.
