It wasn’t until my 3rd or 4th time in North Bend/Coos Bay, that I realized just how big the actual Coos Bay actually is. It’s actually a pretty impressive waterway. The cities of North Bend and Coos Bay are actually larger than expected as well. I like the small downtown locations, but there are really a lot of cool places to explore as well. The 2016 Kentuck Run (15k & 5k) is one race that takes you away from the 101 and puts you on the east side of the Bay.
The race starts and ends at near the Kentuck Inlet. You can see a similar route here, but they note that it is not exactly the same. Runners will get to run on rolling non-closed road, yet the surrounding areas (c0mplete with farmland and a beautiful valley) are quiet and generally full of birds and other fowl along the water. There will be two aid stations on the 15K course and a small post-race spreadat the finish.
The website lacks some of the details, so it is recommended that you email the RD’s (see below) for more detailed information.
