Race Preview: 13th Annual Running of the Trolls in Astoria (June 18th, 2016)

Find your inner Viking with the 2016 Scandinavian Midsummer Festival and the 13th Annual Running of the Trolls on Saturday, June 18th at 8:30 am in Astoria. Sponsored by the Columbia Memorial Hospital, this run benefits the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival Association Scholarship Fund and only costs $25. Participants have the choice of a 1 ½ mile run/walk, a 3 mile run/walk or a 5 ¾ mile run/ walk. Prizes will be awarded to the top male, female, teen and youth finishers in the 5 ¾ mile event. Registration will be available at the Festival Information Booth on Friday night and from 7:00am-8:00am the morning of the race,  but avoid long lines by registering in advance.  Download the registration page and mail it with your check (Checks made out to S.M.F.A.) to Running of the Trolls, P.O. Box 34, Astoria, OR 97103. The $25 entrance fee includes the run and your choice of a Troll shirt OR a 3-day admission button to the 2016 Scandinavian Midsummer Festival, free parking on June 18th and a bottle of water.

The course runs through the beautiful Olney countryside. It begins at the Clatsop County Fairground parking lot, follows Walluski Loop Road and Labiske Lane and turns around to loop back to the fairgrounds. The course is mostly flat with one gradual hill, but includes some scenic country views. Dogs will not be allowed on the course.  Check in and day of registration will be available from 7-8am on June 18th at the fairgrounds and the run begins at 8:30AM.
