It’s time again for the Strava Segment of the Week! This week we are heading to the East Metro and going for a run in Gresham, one I couldn’t resist because it’s name is quite clever. That’s the thing in Strava: the first person to log a segment gets to name it. And this one, named, “Chase Me Down,” sounds like it was made for this feature where we post a segment and challenge our readers to better the course record.
First though, let’s look back two weeks at the Bald Peak Road Climb segment. Both previous course holders are still at the top of the leaderboard, congrats Rose Logan and Don Gallogly!
This week’s segment offers a unique challenge: a straight 0.9-mile segment. Seems perfect for anyone training for a street mile! And the current records show the women’s record well ahead of the men’s.
This week’s run is a straight shot on SE Chase Road from SE 282nd Ave to SE 302nd Ave, near Sam Barlow High School. It has a slight incline, gaining 103 feet over the 0.9 mile-length.
As of May 19, 2016, the course records are:
Women’s: Olivia Johnson from May 2016, 6:37
Men’s: Luke Hazel from December 2015, 7:34
So, can you beat their times and become the leader of this segment? You have until Thursday, June 2 at noon to try and break the record and see your name in “lights” on Run Oregon!
Strava is an online training and racing log for runners and cyclists. The basic account is free and requires you to create a login. There is also a premium version, but in order to run and record routes as described in this post, you do not need to subscribe to their premium service. Note that this is not sponsored by Strava, nor endorsed or supported in any way by Strava. It’s just a fun thing we’re going to do to give some speedy shout-outs to area runners and pose a challenge to those of you willing to take on their segment.
