Holy patooties! Always wanted to run on a runway – especially the runway that the U.S. Navy Blue Angels have touched? Wow, yes!
Now you can! The 2nd annual Run on the Runway 5k, occurring during the 28th year of the Intel Oregon International Air Show, will take place Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 9 a.m. Please note: there is a strictly enforced 1-hour maximum time limit for this event.
The 5k, opened to only 500 lucky runners, age 14+. This is a very unique 5k, as it will take place on the flat, fast runways of Hillsboro Airport. Specifically, the course will include runways 31 East and 20 and surrounding taxiways. Due to strict security, no deviation of the course is allowed, and please don’t leave any trash on the course as you make your way through your 5k. This is such an epic opportunity to run on the runway – where only planes can go!
This chip timed race will support the Hillsboro Schools Foundation, so know that, when you are cruising along getting ready to taxi onto the runway with your running shoes, you are supporting something awesome in the community.
Entry into the airport to collect your packet will begin at 8 a.m. race day, with the race occurring at 9 a.m. Awards will be given to race winners after the race (exact awards information is TBA as of 6/22/2015). Your entry fee will include the chipped run, free parking (!!) and the official run shirt. There are multiple options to choose from for registering, one which includes a general admission ticket to the Air Show.
Groups are encourage to enter and participate – please call the Air Show office at 503-629-0706 for assistance getting your group registered.
Spectators are welcome, and you do not need a general admission ticket to watch the race.
Additional information about this one-of-a-kind opportunity to run on the runway: no walkers, strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, bikes, weapons, glass or pets will be allowed on the course.
