The Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence (or CARDV for short) is an organization that provide services and support to those in the community affected by sexual and domestic violence, as well as provides education and leadership within the community to change the societal conditions that cultivate these forms of violence.
According to the Oregonstate.edu website, “One in four college women and one in 13 men will experience an act of completed or attempted rape (NIJCDC, 1998).” Those are horrific statistics! If you know someone who has been a victim of rape or domestic violence, and don’t know how to help, here’s your chance…
The 13th Annual Mother’s Day Run/Walk, which will be located in downtown Corvallis, Ore.,is a great way to help support this worthy cause! According to the race website, “Proceeds from the event benefit the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence. Funds raised are used to sustain CARDV’s shelter program, advocacy services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, and CARDV’s community education program.”
Participants have the option to register either for the 5k run or walk, as well as they have 1 mile or 2 mile walk options if a 5k seems like more than you wanna tackle for the day. The event IS family friendly, so don’t hesitate to bring those strollers along for the ride! It’s important to note, though, that regardless of whether you have a child, stuffed animal, or a sandwich in the stroller, they are only allowed on the walking courses. They DO have a free kids dash (for those under 8 yrs old), and all child participants will receive a participation ribbon! No one get’s left out of this race! The best part? The course is flat….’nuff said.
There will be plenty of post-race festivities located in the parking lot at Second Street and B Street in downtown Corvallis, as well as plenty of water and refreshments for participants at the finish line.
