Small Race Preview: 2015 Husky Heroes 5K Fun Run in Redmond, OR

Another race in the Dry Canyon? OK, sign me up! I run in the Dry Canyon so much I know every elevation change, every turn, every rock (and when some punk moves one) and every tree. Let’s just say that if you live over here and you’re a runner, the Dry Canyon represents a place you will invariably log some miles in, possibly several thousand over the years. Each running season, several events utilize the Dry Canyon for it’s main paved trail which extends just over 4 miles from the north to the south. This year, Elton Gregory Middle School is putting on it’s first ever Husky Heroes 5K Fun Run.

Best I can tell, I’m not getting any pancakes though, which is one of the reasons I run, so this is all very disheartening. Maybe if I beat out all the little kids they’ll let me have a pancake or two. Or, you can just do it the right way and kick down $10 for all the pancakes you can eat, after the race of course.

The race benefits the Sparrow Club, Student Leadership and Athletic Scholarships and is also being put on by Redmond High School. Given the location, the race should be well attended, as events in the Dry Canyon usually are. The course will run south from Sam Johnson Park to the end of the trail and then return and finish at Sam Johnson Park. Pancakes will be served starting at 9:30!
