Once again, Southern Oregon Runners brings you the Lost Creek Trail Runs. Choose from a 30K, a 5K, or a 30K Relay in Trail, Oregon. Wait a minute! Am I the only Oregonian who had no idea there was a town named Trail in our great state? I have to say, it is pretty cool to have a trail run in Trail. (It’s the simple things that grab my attention!) For those of you, like me, who didn’t know about Trail, it is an “all-season” recreational area near Shady Cove in the Upper Rogue River area of Southern Oregon.
Starting at Joseph H. Stewart State Park day use area, the 30K course goes around the lake with 2 miles of pavement, 1 mile of gravel roads – including a trip over the dam, and 15.6 miles of single track trail. The total elevation gain is 1,744 feet, so get ready to do some climbing! The 30K will have 3 aid stations available. Be aware that there is a 4 hour cut-off. The 30K Relay is the same course, but is split into 2 legs. The first leg is 10.6 miles long and the hand-off is at one of the aid stations. The 2nd leg is 8 miles.
The 5K course is a loop on bike paths and trails within the park. This loop has a total elevation gain of 440 feet and there are no aid stations available.
After the race, hot soup will be available for participants. Make sure you also stick around for the age group awards which will be 3 deep in 5 year age increments for both the 5k and 30K races. Awards for the relay teams will go to the first place male, female, and co-ed teams.
