Race Preview: 2015 Soles2Souls 5K/10K (Beaverton)

On April 4, I’ll be running the fourth annual Sole2Souls run in Beaverton. The standard Run Oregon race preview can be found here.

I was delighted to get one of the Run Oregon comps for this race. I ran it two years ago, when the race course started right next to Oaks Amusement Park and proceed along the Springwater Trail. That was a fast route; my recap can be found here.

Although this is a relatively small race (last year’s field had 241 total 5K and 10K runners), I remember that the 2013 race felt like a bigger event due to the big turnout by West Hills Christian School parents, who stationed themselves along the route and applauded/encouraged runners throughout. Also quite notable was the genuine interest that the race organizers had in seeking to improve their race; the emcee that year, upon learning afterward that I was a Run Oregon blogger, sought me out and asked me what I thought they could do better the next year. In truth, I had nothing to suggest: the race distance was accurately measured, it was well-marked, and the route wasn’t too clogged.

Oh, and there were great raffle prizes in 2013, and last year too.

To sum up, this has been a very well-put together race, it’s very inexpensive (just $12.50 for either 5K or 10K!), and proceeds go to benefit the track program at West Hills. Run Oregon admin Kelly Barten’s recap (linked above) noted that this course, used last year also, is fast!
