Race Preview: X-Dog Events Ole’s Assault (Astoria)

If you’ve been to or read about any X-Dog event, you know that these aren’t ordinary road races. X-Dog has been organizing muddy adventure runs even before dirty runs became mainstream. Ole’s Assault is no different. The event website lists no distance, just an approximate finish time for most people (2-2.5hrs), and the location is described as “near Astoria”.

This year’s Ole’s Assault is on Sunday, September 14, with a 10am start time at the Klaskanine Campground near Astoria. Participants are invited to camp for free in the group area on Saturday night before embarking on the adventure run on Sunday morning.

The race itself is very no-frills. There will be no water or aid stations along the course, so be sure to carry whatever you will need. The hills around Astoria offer many natural obstacles, and at least ten man-made challenges are added as well. The course is well marked, and you don’t need any special equipment to navigate or conquer the obstacles.

X-Dog doesn’t reveal too much about the course in order to surprise you, but if you’d like to see what you’re getting into, check out last year’s photo gallery.

After the race there’ll be awards for top finishers over all standard age groups, as well as athenas and clydesdales. There is a special price for top-finishing teams of public servants (military, police, fire). Also stay for the salmon bake

You can register online or by mail-in form. If you’d like to take advantage of the military/police/fire/teacher/student discount, you must mail in your form. Discount not available for online registration.
