I love beer. After now having visited over 360 different breweries, it’s fair to say I have sampled a lot of beer (follow me on Untappd). From post-race pints and run club meeting locations, to beer miles and relays, running and the kegged nectar seem to go hand-in-hand in Oregon. Our Kegs and Legs feature is where beer & cider drinking runners like me can go to find some new favorite beverages. Check out previous posts here!
We have also featured HUB before as a part of Kegs & Legs, but we thought it would be fitting to showcase a beer on the week leading up to the event! This week’s beer is brand new – Staycation NE-style IPA.
Coming up THIS WEEKEND, is race number 3 of the 2018 Oregon Brewery Running Series – held at HUB in Vancouver! Here are some highlights from our race preview:
The run is approximately a 5k through neighborhoods and a park, there’s no timing clock, and no awards. There’s also no gear-check, so plan accordingly. All participants receive a free drink (non-alcoholic for those under 21; beer or soda for those 21 and older with valid ID) and some Hopworks or Running Series merchandise. You can preview the beer list here.
10% of proceeds from every race in this series are donated to the Oregon Brewshed Alliance, Dollar For Portland, and Life Vest Inside.
Oregon Brewery Running Series – Hopworks Vancouver

The haze craze is here. While the typical PNW IPA is piney, the NE IPA is unfiltered and more citrusy and “juicy” than what we are generally used to in our bitter beers. Some people brush off this styling as a fad, but it is expected to be more prominent in 2018.
HUB’s take on this styling is really, really good. They just bottled up the Staycation and I am very impressed. Granted, I’m open to the new hazy style, but others who prefer a bitter IPA may not find this up to the task (still try it though – you never know!). For being a big imperial beer (8.5% ABV), it drinks real smooth with tropical mouthfeel. In true Hopworks fashion, this IPA is completely organic (oats, wheat and Calypso, Azacca, and Simcoe hops). Staycation will be on draft at the race, but you can also take some home in their 22oz bottles as well.
See you at the race!
