Tifosi Sanctum SL: A Fresh Take on a Familiar Favorite

After what has felt like weeks of gray skies and steady Oregon rain, it’s finally starting to look a bit more like sunglasses season again. And if we’re talking sunglasses, more often than not, I’m talking about options from Tifosi.

I’ve worn a wide range of their models over the years, and I keep coming back for the same reasons: they’re stylish without being loud, performance-driven without being overbuilt, and priced in a way that doesn’t make you nervous to actually use them. That combination is harder to find than it should be.

One of my longtime favorites has been the Sanctum line. I’ve owned both the original Sanctum and the Sanctum XL. The OG pair is, unfortunately, somewhere on the floor of the Pacific Ocean thanks to a bodyboarding mishap a few summers ago — and yes, it was a tough loss. So when the Sanctum SL arrived as the newest evolution of the line, I was especially curious to see how it stacked up.

The biggest update with the Sanctum SL is the shift to a half-rim construction instead of a full frame. That subtle tweak makes a noticeable difference. The open lower edge expands the field of vision and reduces that “framed-in” feeling some larger lenses can create. If you’re someone who gets distracted by thick frames in your peripheral view, this design feels cleaner and less intrusive.

They’re also impressively light — weighing in at under an ounce. The lightweight build paired with Tifosi’s grippy nose pads has meant minimal slippage and no annoying bounce for me, even when picking up the pace. They settle in and more or less disappear.

One thing I’ve always appreciated about the Sanctum line is that it doesn’t scream “race day only.” The SL continues that trend. While they’re absolutely capable on long runs, workouts, or races, they also look completely at home grabbing coffee post-run or wearing around town.

That versatility is a big win. Some performance sunglasses are great for sport but awkward anywhere else. The Sanctum SL hits that middle ground really well.

They’re available in a range of current colorways and lens tints, so there’s plenty of room to match your vibe — whether that’s bold and bright or a bit more understated.

Bottom line: another strong entry from Tifosi. Lightweight, functional, affordable, and easy to wear — exactly what I want when the clouds finally part and it’s time to get back under the sun.
