Do you have a bunch of ugly sweaters stuffed in the back of your closet and can’t quite find enough excuses to wear them all? Fear not — this holiday season brings another reason to don your gaudiest knit and hit the pavement. The Ugly Sweater 5k returns to Sisters on December 6th for its fifth year of festive fun and chilly cheer.
Starting and finishing at The Barn (one of our favorite hangouts in town), this event brings all the best parts of a small-town race with a holiday twist. The 10 a.m. start time means even if you’re coming over the pass that morning (and it’s not awful), you can probably make it with a little planning and a lot of coffee.
Beyond the 5K itself, this event takes holiday theming to another level. Sure, most Oregon races include a post-run beverage, but this one comes with a sleigh’s worth of extras:
- Custom race bibs
- Hot chocolate and coffee station at the start line
- A festive Christmas scarf complete with a light-up tree
- A hand-crafted Ugly Christmas Sweater medal
- Holiday glasses to top off your outfit
- Jingle bells for your shoes
- And even a candy cane reindeer to take home
If that’s not enough to make you jolly, the race also supports a good cause — proceeds benefit Living Well With Dementia, a new nonprofit in Sisters, and the Outlaws Downhill Ski Team.
And because no ugly sweater event would be complete without a little competition off the course, don’t miss the Ugly Sweater Contest Parade — your chance to show off your finest festive fashion before (or after) your miles.
So grab your sweater, lace up your jingling shoes, and make your way to Sisters for one of the coziest, quirkiest runs of the season.
