When I think of the brand Mammut, the word ‘outdoorsy’ comes to mind. It conjures images of alpinism, backcountry skiing, mountaineering. Rain jackets and snowboarding pants. Climbing ropes and backpacking essentials. In other words: gear.
I’ve been running around – quite literally – in the Mammut Aenergy TR shorts these past few months, feeling like I’m soaking in the summer adventures.

I love the feel of these shorts; a lightweight fabric, including on the waistband, made from Econyl, which is a 100% regenerated nylon. Mammut is known for their commitment to using recycled materials, reducing carbon emissions in their production of products, and promoting safe and fair working conditions.
You can read more about their efforts here and feel good wearing their gear both physically and morally.
Back to the shorts! They have an athletic fit, which presents as neither flowy nor a spandex fit, with a notch in the bottom of the leg for a little more room. They are high-waisted and have a zippered pocket in the back. There is a drawstring in the front and reflective details as we transition toward fall and darker running times.

I like these shorts a lot but I’m not in love with them, just for the simple fact that they aren’t quite long enough to be big-thigh friendly without some serious Glide application. These are so great for a gym workout, a climbing session, a dog walk, or a short run, but I wouldn’t dare do a long run without a bit more of an inseam, or switching to the 2-in-1 version with the built-in inner tight option.
I would also note that the biggest size available is a 16 and would love to see a bit more size inclusivity for the outdoor community here.

I love the color palette for these shorts – we have the classic black, a subtle sage-y green, a bright blue, and a soft lavender.
Overall, I think these shorts are a comfortable summer find and are worth checking out given how soft and lightweight they are! You can see more Mammut products on their Facebook and Instagram pages as well.
