Thirst Things First: A Look at Nathan’s 2025 Hydration Line

It’s not quite warm weather running season yet, but it’s time to start talking about hydration. Winter runs make me feel like I don’t need as much water, but I know that’s a total fallacy. Staying hydrated—whether with water or electrolytes—is key to keeping the legs fresh and the body functioning at its best.

Nathan’s new 2025 hydration lineup brings some fresh updates, and there’s something for every type of run—from quick everyday jogs to trail adventures and mid-distance efforts. The new line feels thoughtfully designed, lightweight, and ready to roll no matter where your miles take you.

Everyday Runs: SpeedDraw 2.0

For those regular runs where carrying water is a necessity but a vest feels like overkill, the SpeedDraw 2.0 is a solid pick. This insulated handheld holds 18 ounces, which is more than enough for the 3-to-6-mile range. I’ve been using the previous version of the SpeedDraw Plus for a while now, and it’s a staple on about 75% of my runs.

The insulation won’t keep things ice-cold for hours, but it does help delay the inevitable lukewarm water situation, which is a win in my book. The bottle shape has been slightly modernized for a more comfortable grip, and I’ve had zero issues with the strap or comfort level.

Bonus points for the small mesh front pocket that easily fits a phone for quick access (a must for snapping mid-run views) and the side zipper pocket that’s perfect for a key or a few bucks.

Middle-Distance Runs: Pinnacle Featherlite Belt

If a handheld isn’t quite enough but a full vest feels like too much, the Pinnacle Featherlite Belt is the happy medium. I used to be all about running belts for holding essentials, but I’ve mostly moved to a handheld for daily runs. That said, for those 6-to-10-mile efforts, a belt makes a lot of sense.

Bib attachments!

This one stands out for its triangular storage setup, which does two key things: provides a medium-sized storage pocket for the essentials and secures a water bottle in a way that minimizes bounce. It sits comfortably on the lower back, and while getting the bottle out can take a little getting used to, it’s intuitive after a few runs. Another cool feature? Built-in bib attachments for race day. It’s a little detail, but one that makes total sense once you use it.

Longer Runs & Trail Days: QuickStart 3.0 4L & Pinnacle Breeze 4L

For long runs, trail days, or hotter temps where extra hydration is necessary, the QuickStart 3.0 4L and Pinnacle Breeze 4L hit the sweet spot. Both strike a balance between minimalist and excessive—light enough to not feel bulky but with enough storage to make longer efforts manageable.

  • QuickStart 3.0 4L: This one is all about simplicity. The soft, durable material dries quickly, and the adjustable sternum straps create a bounce-free fit. It comes with a soft hydration bladder and has multiple sizing options (6L, 4L, and 4L SF – soft flask). If you’re not in the market for a full-on vest with every bell and whistle, this gets the job done well. It has a built-in 4L hydration bladder and solid storage options for nutrition and small essentials.

  • Pinnacle Breeze 4L: This vest is unique because it doesn’t come with a bladder (though you can add your own), but it does include two 14-ounce tapered soft flasks with extended straws. That means 28 ounces of easily accessible water—you can just dip your head down and sip without much effort.

It’s super lightweight, breathable, and has six pockets: one large back pocket with a foldover flap, four up front (two on each shoulder strap), and an extra zippered pocket for securing valuables. The side adjustability makes it easy to customize the fit, whether you’re layering up or keeping it light.

Final Thoughts

Nathan’s updated hydration line brings a more modern, streamlined look while keeping things lightweight and practical. Whether you’re logging short weekday runs, ramping up the miles, or heading into the mountains for an all-day adventure, there’s something in this lineup to keep you covered.

The reimagined hydration line launches on March 10, 2025so wherever your running takes you this year, Nathan’s got your hydration needs dialed in.
