Race Preview: High Alpine Half (Bend)

download Once again, Super Dave Thomason of SuperFit Productions has put together a half marathon worthy of any runner. Starting at Mt Bachelor’s West Village Lodge, the course winds through the trails and hills of the buttes and mountains that overlook Bend. With a total elevation gain/loss of over 1,200 feet, there’s a reason that aid stations have whole PB&J’s at them.

The High Alpine Half course covers parts of the famed Flagline 50K course and includes views of several major mountains in the area, as well as amazing single track that sends runners through pine tree forests and high lake meadows.

What might be the kicker, however, is the starting elevation, which is over 6,300 feet above sea level. If you’re thinking of coming over from Portland or Eugene for this one, you might want to pack an extra oxygen tank. Regardless, this is an excellent race with a course that will leave you breathless and views that will do the same.

When: Sunday, September 18th, race starts at 9am.

Register: In person at FootZone Bend or online here.
