Let’s take it back to middle school social studies class, back to when we learned about ancient Greece. Besides learning about the stunning and complex Doric, Ionic and Corinthian architectural systems and the Olympics, one of my favorite parts of 6th grade social studies was Greek mythology; tales of gods and heroes forever canonized in narrative form (and often artwork). Most of us know about the Greek gods and goddesses like Zeus, Demeter, Aphrodite and Hades, but there were a few rambunctious and bawdy characters that our grade school teachers liked didn’t tell us about gods like Dionysus, who is the god of the grape harvest. Dionysus is the inspiration for the Dionysus Dash 5K Run & Walk which will be held on July 31st, in Dayton, Or.

This race combines two things I really love; wine (preferably Pinot Noir) and running. One of the best things about living in Oregon is the fact that we have plenty of vino-themed races to choose from, allowing us locals (and visitors) to see different parts of “wine country” in our beautiful Willamette Valley. Put on your toga, grab your leafy head piece and lace up your trail shoes and join fellow runners and walkers to take in some amazing views as you dash your way to the end of the course where wine awaits you!
