Southern Oregon is a beautiful place to run and Mildred’s Trail Dash sounds like a true trail run just outside of Roseburg. Slated for July 9th, this event is hosted by the Roseburg Road Runners and the Friends of Mildred Kanipe Memorial Park. There are two distances to choose from, the standard 5K and a 9K that grants the awesome chance to set an automatic pr. Despite the typical July heat, the event site promises participants will stay cool as they run through a forest on single track trails.
Registration is open online at $30 for the 9K and $20 for the 5. The entry fee includes a shirt as well. DOE registration starts at 7 am and is $5 less but does not include a shirt. Shirts can then be purchased at $15 each. Both races start at 8:30. Awards will follow at the public picnic area.
Proceeds from the event go to the Friends of Mildred Kanipe Memorial Park, Association. It seems that between the race, geocaching and trails, this is an event you could make a day of. Just be aware this is a true trail run, and a little more technical than your average smoothed path. A week after the holiday weekend, July 9th should be a little calmer on the roads and this would be a great way to get back in touch with nature.
