Strava Segment of the Week: Straight up Salzman

If runners anywhere have the resources to become strong hill runners, it’s here in Oregon. (Colorado runners probably have it pretty good too.)

So let’s celebrate with a new Strava Segment of the week that goes pretty much straight up Saltzman from Highway 30 until you reach the picnic table at the intersection of the Leif Erickson Trail and Saltzman.

The segment is 1.9 miles, has a 6% grade, and climbs from 55 feet above sea level to 686 feet above sea level. 58 people have attempted this segment for a total of 131 attempts.

As of June 23, 2016, the course records are:

Women’s: Susie Rivard from February 2016, 16:27

Men’s:  Patrick Reaves from July 2015, 13:07

So, can you beat their times and become the leader of this segment? You have until Thursday, July 7 at noon to try and break the record and see your name in “lights” on Run Oregon! The SSOTW from two weeks ago, the Esplanade Loop, did not see any new leaders since we posted it, but we’ll occasionally revisit old segments to look for updates, so keep trying.

Strava is an online training and racing log for runners and cyclists. The basic account is free and requires you to create a login. There is also a premium version, but in order to run and record routes as described in this post, you do not need to subscribe to their premium service. Note that this is not sponsored by Strava, nor endorsed or supported in any way by Strava. It’s just a fun thing we’re going to do to give some speedy shout-outs to area runners and pose a challenge to those of you willing to take on their segment.
