The Northwest Cherry Festival in The Dalles is a weekend long celebration that includes the Cherry Festival Run. This event boasts a 3K, 5K, and 10K along paved country roads. The 10K loop has a challenging uphill start, but ends downhill. Proceeds from this event benefit The Dalles High School Cross Country Teams.
While you’re in The Dalles for this race, don’t miss the many other things happening the weekend of April 22-24. The weekend kicks off with a dance party, so arrive on Friday to get the full Cherry Festival experience. The festival consists of classic car and tractor shows, a sock hop, lots of great local music and bands, cherry sampling with the Oregon Cherry Growers, a carnival, mechanical bull riding, pony rides, and a parade. If you are a biker (motorcycle, that is) there is a teddy bear ride that collects teddy bears for children in unfortunate situations followed by a poker run. For kids ages 3-7 there is a Royal Anne and Andy contest that could land your son or daughter a special place in the parade. New this year is the Cherry Idol for aspiring singers of all ages.
With so many things going on, this will be a full weekend! Enjoy the festival, get a run in, and don’t forget to do lots of cherry sampling. For more information on the Northwest Cherry Festival and the Cherry Festival Run see The Dalles Chamber of Commerce website.
