The Costumed Runner Blog: 2015 Shamrock Run (March 15, 2015)

Race: Shamrock Run 3/15/15

The Day of the Race

I knew it was going to be a blustery Shamrock Run but was excited to see there was still many smiling faces and eager runners out at the starting line.  I was excited for my friend Carmen who this was her first Shamrock and first 15K race.  She was good with me running alongside of her as the only shamrock ironically running the Shamrock.

We braved the hilly course and took it slow and steady on Pill Hill (aka Terwilliger).  There were many colorful costumes and green as far as the eye can see.  My running buddy was like an old pro and I kept showering her with praises that she was rocking her first Shamrock.  We were also tracking the Guinness bottle costume runner which I can only imagine how on earth he ran in that the entire way.

Although a little soggy and heavier, my shamrock costume was still breathable and easy to run in. I had many a high fives along the course for those runners who either remember this costume and some who asked if I ever ran in a bacon costume which I proclaimed with glee….”YES!”

We could see the 9 mile marker and by this time my high school friend Kristie caught up with us for a quick photo to commemorate this event.

We three raced to the finish lines to the cheers of the crowd and proudly donned our new 2015 15K Shamrock medals.  The announcer also called out his wonder on my shamrock costume and doing the full 15K.

We then celebrated enjoying the bagpipe playing at the finish line.  My trusty costume made it through for a third Shamrock and can’t wait to wear it again for next years.
