Race Preview: 2015 MadAss

DSCF0740

2015 marks the 10th anniversary of the MADras Runners  Mad Ass trail race. This “almost free” race is a procrastinating trail runner’s dream.  With a suggested $20 donation and no pre-registration required, those of you who can never get registered on time are sure to get in to this one. Runners just need to sign a waiver on race day.  How quick and easy is that?

The Mad Ass trail run in Madras, Oregon has 2 routes (course maps are still in process) with the promised return of the original 50K route.  The shorter route, typically a 25K, is still in the works. This “no frills” race requires runners to bring their own water and nutrition, so please be sure to be prepared!  Although, there are a few “frills” with the start and finish at the Madras Aquatic Center, this means real toilets and even a hot shower afterwards!

Donations made at the Mad Ass trail race support the Jack Watts Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship promotes youth running and higher education in the Madras area.

The beauty of this small town race is in the post-race fun.  With time trials on the water slide at the Madras aquatic center and a rope swing into the deep end of the pool, this sounds like the best after-party ever! There is also a post-race potluck. Participants should bring a side dish to share and everyone can enjoy the chili and soup provided.  There is also promise of some creative home-brewed adult beverages (to be enjoyed AFTER the water fun.)

  • MadAss BuzzBuzz (a MadAss tradition Coffee Chocolate Stout)
  • India Pale Lager (a 2014 favorite brew)
  • Mo’s surprise – a Vanilla Cream Ale
