Run for Freedom at the 2024 Independence Day Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K

Throughout the year, most races are scheduled to happen on a Saturday or Sunday (for obvious reasons), so on a mid-week holiday it is a nice option to have an event on a non-weekend day. This year, the 4th of July falls on a Thursday, and there are certainly other morning races to choose from. But if you’re looking for a scenic, tree-lined, rolling course in a local state park, then the 2024 Independence Day Half Marathon/10k/5k at Champoeg State Park just 25 miles south of Portland may be the thing for you.

The race offers a 5k, 10k, and a half marathon, which all start and end at the Riverside Pavillion at the west end of Champoeg Park. The 5k and 10k are out-and-back routes on paved walking/biking trails within the park. The half marathon is a double loop (plus a little more) of the 10k. Due to the nature of the trail, for the safety of all participants, no strollers or pets are allowed on the course. Check out the map for this USATF sanctioned course here!

The start/finish area of the race has plenty of parking, a few flush toilets (in addition to the porta potties which the race will bring in), and a shaded area to hang out before and after the run. Consider carpooling with friends, as the parking/day-use fee is $5 per car unless you have an all-year Oregon State Parks access pass.

There will be a limited number of Day Use Passes available for purchase at packet pick up on July 3rd, but if you don’t purchase one beforehand, you’ll want to have $5 cash ready upon arrival on race morning.

After the race, as with all of Run With Paula’s fabulous events, there will be a great after-party with food and beer served by ROGUE, as well as awards and raffle prizes. Kick off your Independence Day with some fun!!
