Mother’s Day is approaching, and I can confirm as a mother myself that self-care is generally the thing most of us really crave more than anything. Some want massages or jewelry or breakfast in bed, but more often than not, we just want to be left alone for a few hours to do something as indulgent as getting to read a book or to go for a run. If the mother in your life is a runner like I am, here’s a tip…get them something from Oiselle.
I’ve been in love with Oiselle for about a decade, and there are many reasons why this company checks all the boxes.
- For one, it’s a “by women, for women” athletic apparel company.
- Two, a couple of my running idols Kara Goucher and Lauren Fleishman represent them, and that speaks volumes.
- Three, Oiselle donates to causes that help young girls aspire to greatness in running. (Check out more about that here.)
- And lastly, (and possibly the most selfish reason to love them,) their clothes are the absolute best. They are cute, they are comfortable, they are practical, and the quality is the gold standard in activewear.
Altitude Long Sleeve
The Altitude Long Sleeve is the perfect running shirt when the temps aren’t too hot and you just need something to keep you comfy. It’s my favorite top for a brisk Fall morning or for an evening after the sun has begun to fade. It’s also great for a “throw-on” when you’re just looking for all-over comfort.
Oiselle consistently proves that they care about the little things like thumbholes (something I’ve come to depend on if I don’t want to carry the gloves that I will inevitably take off a mile into any run when my hands get sweaty) and super soft fabric that doesn’t itch or ride up when I move. This shirt is completely seamless, so there’s nothing that will irritate your skin, even if you don’t have a chance to take it off immediately after you sweat in it.
Oiselle thinks of things, like a small loop with a size label in the back inside collar instead of an itchy tag. This is such a brilliant and thoughtful inclusion, as this loop enables me to remember what size I am (and yes, it varies depending on brand, so it’s not all that easy to keep track of,) while also giving me something to hang the shirt on when it’s wet or sweaty.
I own the Altitude Long Sleeve in the color Basalt, which is gray or a dark taupe/brown depending on what you pair it with. The fit is relaxed but hugs the body so it always flows well with your movement.
Flyout Bra
Moms need good bras, especially for running, and it doesn’t get much better than the Flyout Bra. So many trail runners were complaining about their sports bras digging into their shoulders under their hydration packs that the Flyout was born to tackle this very issue.
Not only does this bra have amazing coverage in the front, back, and on the sides (the dreaded side boob” is a real issue with many other brands of sports bras!) but there’s built-in storage in a center back pocket that will hold your phone. This pocket is generously sized and made with power mesh.
The straps of the Flyout bra as well as the chest band are nice and wide. This bra also has a higher neck that many bras don’t have, so there’s no danger of spilling over the top. This bra is ideal for a C/D cup and it’s comfortable enough to wear all day.
Bottom line, if you want to make your mother, your sister, your wife, or yourself happy, check out Oiselle. Oiselle has many other options that I personally love, like shirts with watch windows for your Garmin, and the most comfortable hats on the planet, the Runner Trucker.
Oiselle OG Distance Shorts
The Oiselle OG Distance Shorts undoubtedly live up to the brand’s reputation for quality apparel. While the 3.25-inch inseam might not suit everyone’s taste, those who don’t mind it will appreciate the flattering cut that nicely fits the legs and offers modest coverage without restricting movement. Available in five colorways, the tonal arrow pattern on the sides adds a playful touch, enhancing the visual appeal of these shorts.
In terms of functionality, the OG Distance Shorts excel with moisture-wicking and stretch capabilities, essential for any running gear. Despite their lightweight design, they boast two zippered pockets – one on the side and one on the rear – providing convenience for carrying essentials. While these pockets may not comfortably accommodate a phone due to their lightweight nature, the overall performance of the shorts remains commendable.
Though priced slightly higher, at $58, the quality and style of the OG Distance Shorts justify the cost. While some reviewers suggest sizing down, individual experiences may vary (I found mine to fit to size). Beyond running, these shorts promise versatility, likely becoming a staple for casual summer wear. With their flattering fit and functional design, it’s no surprise that many are eager to wear them repeatedly, making them a worthwhile investment for active lifestyles.
