Running with Clarity in Ombraz Sunglasses

Until mid-March this year, the weather in the Pacific Northwest hadn’t quite reached sunglasses-worthy status, with plenty of chilly temperatures, rain, and overcast skies. Then, St. Patrick’s Day weekend arrived. And with it came a glorious four-day stretch of perfect weather—70 degrees and sunny—making it an ideal time to test out my new pair of Ombraz sunglasses.

Ombraz stand out amidst the sea of eyewear options with their unique design. For the uninitiated, Ombraz Sunglasses are described as “carbon-negative, armless sunglasses that solve a problem and serve a purpose.” They offer two lens options: polarized and non-polarized, each coated for smudge and scratch resistance. Crafted from nearly indestructible, lightweight materials and aerospace engineering, these sunglasses redefine durability.

What sets Ombraz apart is their lack of traditional arms; instead, they feature an adjustable cord made from 100% recycled marine-grade Japanese nylon. While putting them on and taking them off may initially seem a little confusing, it becomes second nature once you get the hang of it.

We’ve found these sunglasses to be incredibly comfortable to wear. While I personally haven’t experienced much discomfort with traditional sunglasses (at least in those pairs I still wear), Ombraz’ design addresses common complaints, such as squeezing or tenderizing ears.

Their practicality shines, especially during outdoor activities like hiking in the PNW, where sunlight can quickly shift to shade. Ombraz’s armless design allows them to hang conveniently around your neck, always within reach. Plus, without side arms to worry about breaking or bending, you can stash them in a pack or pocket without concern.

The cord fits snugly under hats, buffs, and headsets, making them ideal for runners who demand secure eyewear that won’t fog up mid-stride. During my runs, I found them to stay securely in place, requiring no adjustments along the way. They are truly so light and really do give as close to a “barely there” feel as you can get.

Most importantly, Ombraz sunglasses maintain a sleek, stylish appearance, rather than looking like a gimmicky contraption with cords attached to them. They’re sunglasses first and foremost, with the added bonus of innovative design features.
