I love camping! I love just about every bit of it. One of my favorite things is to sit around the fire, whether to chat, cook food, or read a book. A nice chair makes the experience even nicer. There are many camping chairs out there, from little tripod stools to large loungers. When I’m packing my gear, I am looking for a good balance between small and packable, and functional and comfortable. The new GCI Outdoors Firepit Rocker brings a level of luxury fireside that I didn’t know I needed.

This folding chair has a lower seat height, making it the perfect fit for me and my younger son. (My taller husband and taller son thankfully prefer higher chairs, still!) The leg design make it stable on most outdoor surfaces, and the spring action rocking technology gives it a perfect rocking motion without becoming unstable. The cupholder is attached to the leg, and it is more stable than most mesh cupholders I am used to from other camp chairs. The mesh backrest keeps my back cool on hot days. The chair folds up easily and stores flat. At 12 lbs carry weight you wouldn’t want to backpack with it, but it is a wonderful luxury item for my car camping adventures.

Like I said, I love camping. The times when I am less happy, however, are when I get cold at night. A good sleeping bag is crucial, and I have learned very early on that a sleeping bag rated to 40* is not actually comfortably anymore when it is 40* at night. The Slumberjack Big Timber Pro 20 is a huge improvement over the sleeping bag I have been using. This bag is rated to 20*, it is flannel lined, its outside is poly/canvas, and it has three cinch straps attached to the bottom for easy rolling and storing. The bag is a little wider and longer than ones I have used, and it has a “big toe footbox” at the bottom, making it more comfortable for your feet when you sleep on your back.

My first camping weekend with this bag was already pretty hot, so it was plenty warm enough for what the temperatures threw at us. The zipper opens from the bottom as well, so you can open an air hole for ventilation by your feet. It also unzips entirely to be a flat blanket, and if you have two of the same bag, you can zip them together to make one double sizes bag (for two people, or just for extra room). This is most definitely a valued addition to my camping gear.
