Medford is a relative hotbed for breweries in Southern Oregon, with 5-6 solid ones pouring great craft beers. Having visited all of them (aside from the brand new Common Block Brewery), I believe that Portal is probably the smallest of the bunch. They are housed in a small corner space in downtown Medford. However, despite their size, they create some of the best beers the city has to offer.

I first stumbled upon them a few years back, when I stopped in for a drink and a (surprisingly delicious) gyro. The inside definitely has a local feel and flavor to it, with local art on the walls and even the pint glasses. I picked up an awesome hand-decorated logo pint glass on my last stop, as it was too awesome to pass up. The beer is also solid and offers some unique flavor pairing. I don’t think I have had a beer I haven’t like there.

From downtown Medford, there is really easy access to the Bear Creek Greenway Trail (as well as 2 other nearby breweries within walking distance. Portal has hosted several events for S.O.R.E. in the past and is a great place to stop in for a brew before or after a run.
