Race Preview: Prost8K 8K/5K 6/19/16 (Springfield, Ore.)

The Prost8K run and 5K walk has been a long standing Father’s Day tradition in the Eugene/Springfield area. It is an excellent way to celebrate Father’s Day, and raise awareness of the devastating condition, prostate cancer, that affects too many every year. The event is presented by the caring, wonderful people at the Oregon Urology Foundation. If you are a prostate cancer survivor, please contact renee at Oregon Urology Institute for a complimentary entry!

Prost8K will take place on Sunday, June 19, 2016 (Father’s day!), with a start for either distance at 8 a.m. The start line will be at Oregon Urology Institute, and the finish at Gateway Mall. The start and finish are a short walk away from each other. Choose between the 8K run, which is 4.97 miles, or the 5K walk, at 3.1 miles. This is a family friendly event – all ages and abilities welcome!

Both courses are going to be scenic, flat and fast! The 5K walk will be an simi out-and-back style course, with the turn-around stationed about the 2.3 mile mark. A water station will be here at the turn-around, as well (hooray!). The 8K is a loop (not out-and-back), which will feature two water stations. Both distances will begin at Oregon Urology Institute, loop behind Gateway Mall, cross over the new I-5 bike bridge, and travel along the quiet neighborhoods west of I-5 before returning to the finish at Gateway Mall. Check out the 8K and 5K course map for all the details.

Entry fees are $15 for adults through May 31, then $20 until June 18. Youth 12 and under are $10 until May 31, then $15 until June 18. Race day registration is available for an additional $5. Technical event shirts in adult sizing are available for an addition $10, and youth cotton event shirts may be purchased for an additional $7. The shirt guarantee deadline is May 31.

Packet pick-up will occur the morning of the race from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at the start line (Oregon Urology Institute), or on Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eugene Running Company.

Awards will be presented beginning at 9:30 a.m. The top overall male and female finishers in the 8K, and the top three in each age group for the 8K will receive awards. The 5K walk will not have awards.
