Created to honor a Marine that fell in the line of duty, it serves as a yearly reminder to his family that his service will not be forgotten. Registration is currently open online for all three distances. The half is $65 (includes a shirt), the 8K $35 (add $10 for a shirt), and the 1.3 mile run is $15 ( add $10 for a shirt). The longer races start at 10am and the shorter run 10 minutes after.
The course map makes it looks like the event winds through residential areas with the half having a long section in a rural area. The start and finish is at the Community Chapel, and the events will be chip timed. There will be special prized for the largest team as well as for the top 3 male and female finishers in the 8K and half.
The late start time makes this race a little easier to attend, as it allows participants more sleep, or a less hectic morning. It is also nice to know that the entry fees are going to such worthy causes. Often times it is low key, small town races like this that best showcase the running community, especially when coupled with a great cause. All great reasons to head over to Sweet Home for a race on May 28th.
