A simple velcro ankle strap seems so subdued and straightforward, that it’s almost easy to overlook the joy of simple running gear. Because let’s be honest, we all talk about Heel to Toe Drops, fiber breakdowns in running tops, and the crazy technology in our GPS watches. Simple ankle bands that velcro?! That’s preposterous!! What is the stretch ratio? What grade of velcro is being used?
Obviously I’m being flippant, but it is true that simplicity is underrated. The Atopio BlazeBands are worn around the ankles and have some elasticity for comfort’s sake (12 inches long before stretching). The reflective stripe goes completely around the strap once for a 360 degree shine. They could also be used as arm or wrist bands if you so choose. The reflective quality is said to reflect up to 700 feet away. While I haven’t polled every passing motorist as to the accuracy of this claim, I do know that I have not been struck by a car while running with these, and – all joking aside – I have noticed that cars have slowed and moved further away than with my previous gear.
