Race Preview: 2015 Silverton Health Fun Run

The Silverton Health 5k Fun Run has been around longer than I have. This upcoming Mother’s Day weekend (May 9, 2015), the 32nd annual event will be bringing many to the small Mid-Willamette Valley town to compete and have fun.And why change a good thing, right?! The out-and-back route follows the same it has always been. The course starts in front of Silverton Hospital Family Birth Center and snakes downhill at the beginning through some neighborhoods before entering beautiful Coolidge-McClain Park. There will be a narrow bridge crossing before runners are spit out onto Water Street. Runners will head out-of-town for a bit before hitting a small loop and heading back to the finish. Since it is a reverse repeat, keep in mind that there is an uphill finish to the end – which does make it a toughcapping to the 3.1 mile race.

There will be complimentary snacks from 730 – 10am and a kids 1-mile run at 8am. Last year saw 200 total runners compete with some super fast individuals (winner ran 17:45 in 2014). Come down and enjoy a solid small-mid size 5k in the valley.
