Background: After coaching “Couch To 5K” for several years, our former students (who we had been emailing on occasion) urged us to start a website. That was the genesis for RunJersey.com, which we started in April of 2014. I have been a recreation director since college 15 years ago and I/we love to see people out and having fun – regardless of ability. We like to consider ourselves an on-line showcase of all things running in NJ. We value participation of competition and would rather meet a runner with a great story moreso than someone who is simply fast. We cover great people and places to run around the running community.
Writers: We have a stable of about 5 regular contributors plus lot of guest writers. Our lineup includes:
- Shannon McGinn – certified distance coach,
- Ed Halper – former Monmouth University Track & Field Coach,
- Dr. John Connors – US Olympic Podiatrist,
- Craig Segel – elite runner and coach,
- and a handful more
Our favorite places: Liberty State Park (with the NYC skyline & The Statue Of Liberty in the background), The D&R Canal, Sunrise Mountain (part of the Appalachian Trail in NJ) and anywhere on the NJ boardwalks.
Our favorite races: The NJ Marathon, NYC Marathon, Philly Half and Full, the Spring Lake 5 (10,000 runners) and the George Sheehan Classic.
Who reads us: 2700+ on Facebook and 4000+ on Twitter. We have all kinds of readers – HS athletes, college students, elites, average Joe’s and former NJ residents who miss it.
Simply put…we just love it.
