Race Preview: 2015 Color Me Rad 5k in Eugene

Advertisements

On April 11 the streets of Eugene will be transformed into a colorful party otherwise known as Color Me Rad.  This untimed 5K promises to be all about fun. The event is loosely based on Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colors, where the colors represent the end of winter and the start of spring. Instead, at Color Me Rad, “the color represents the end of lame runs and the beginning of fun runs.”

Participants are encouraged to wear white shirts which will be covered in pink, yellow, blue, green, and violet at 8 different color stations.  Color bombs are made up of colored corn starch, which is gluten free, if that had you concerned. New to this year’s Color Me Rad is color gel. Think Nickelodeon in a squirt gun. At the end of the 5K, your pristine white tee will be an explosion of color.

So, what do you get (besides a whole lot of color) when you sign up for this colorful event?  A t-shirt, knee high socks, a color pack, and free race photos. The event will also have many things for purchase on race day from sunglasses to color packs to phone protectors.

This is a for-profit event that partners with local charities. The local charity partners are not listed on the website, so it is unknown at this time what charity in the Eugene area is partnering with Color Me Rad.

If you are looking for a fun, non-competitive run, this is it!  This would be a great way to introduce a reluctant runner to a fun run. Walkers are more than welcome, too!
