Product Review: Dr. Cool Cooling Products by Coolcore

Dr. Cool out of the box!

I first saw Dr. Cool  products at the Run Disney Princess Half Marathon and they looked awesome. Then I heard about them on the Mickey Miles Podcast and finding out they won the prestigious Hohenstein Institute’s “Innovative Technology” award – I knew I had to try them! What are they? Dr. Cool Recovery-On-The-Go Wrap is the ONLY product to combine ice and compression in one flexible wrap. Dr. Cool wraps can be used dry as a compression wrap to support and protect various body parts during activities, or frozen to combine cold and compression to reduce swelling and speed recovery mid or post-activity. I tried them several times over the last month – once with a definite learning lesson.

They tell the truth when they say the Coolcore’s patented material will keep the fabric colder, longer. I felt the product worked just as they described. I wore it numerous times and several different ways –  on my calves, my hips, lower back, and knees. I slightly froze it (1 hour) and also fully froze it. They are cold! I used them after my long runs, after the Blooms to Brews 10K, and after any intense run or workout (to include an overly bouncy Zumba workout).  The cool compression felt great, was easy to put on after I watched the videos to see what I was doing wrong – turns out I was going top to bottom and I needed bottom to top. I felt I could tell a difference when I didn’t wear them.

Some website facts:

Small – 3″x25″ ($24.99)

Medium – 4″ x 50″ ($29.99)

Large 6″x 50″ ($39.99)

Cooler ($9.99)

I loved that is was chemical free and safer for me and the environment. Portland’s Go Green is starting to affect me. I got a small one and a large one, and need to buy another large one. The sizes ranged from small (wrist, ankle, or head), to medium (knee, elbow, or thigh), to large (thigh, shoulder, back, or, for me, calves).  I noticed you could use dry or wet, but I always used mine wet because I always wanted them to be ready at after my runs. They just were so comfortable and cool. I found that wearing them over my running tights was just right, due to the brisk coolness. They lasted about 30 minutes for my small and about an hour of cooling for my large. It may be in my mind, but it felt like they reduced my swelling and lowered recovery time.

Dr. Cool – difference between water and no water. Water it until it turns a darker blue.

Cons:

This was a great product. It worked as promised, and although I had to learn from it, if I had just watched the videos provided, I never would have had any issues. The website is clean-cut and easy to use and they even ship to Canada. Fun, easy, flexible and works great. I have already recommended it to a few people while on a trip to IHOP. Yes, I looked silly, but I never regretted it.
